BUS RAPID TRANSIT

Denmark’s first BRT line uses the double-articulated e-buses we delivered last year to Tide Bus Danmark. These almost 25 metre long vehicles (their exact length is 24.7 metres) are fully electric. The on-board energy storage is provided by Solaris High Energy batteries with an impressive capacity of 700 kWh. The vehicles have two traction motors, driving two drive axles.

METROSTYLE

The bold, eye-catching design of the front of the bus is indicative of the MetroStyle finish of the vehicle. It’s a design that’s been specifically developed to support BRT-based public transportation systems. As a replacement for traditional rearview mirrors, we offered interactive cameras. These cameras improve both driving comfort and safety. Meanwhile, a system of cameras on the sides of the bus helps eliminate hazards associated with the so-called blind spot – the area around the vehicle that is not visible to the driver in the side or rearview mirrors.

22 STOPS

Aalborg has a population of 120,000 and is growing rapidly. City officials have decided to invest in a new transportation system in hopes of increasing ridership on the city’s public transportation network. The new system is called Plusbus. It is 12 kilometres long and serves 22 stops. The route runs from Veddeløbbanen through the city centre, passing two major train stations and ending at the sprawling university campus. The double-articulated e-bus runs every 7.5 minutes on weekdays, and every 15 minutes in the early morning, evening and weekends.

A SMOOTH RIDE

The system, operated by Solaris Urbino 24 electric buses, replaced the former Bus Line 2. The route has been adapted to BRT standards, with long stretches of dedicated lanes, redesigned bus stops and priority at traffic lights. Seamless bus operation is also ensured by restricting other vehicles along the route and separating bus lanes where possible.

The new model has definitely improved the capacity of the city’s public transport system. One of the advantages is that other buses operating in the city also benefit from the improvements associated with the introduction of BRT by sharing route sections, such as in the city centre. The increase in quality and comfort of travel is also not insignificant – according to passenger reports, travelling around Aalborg in sleek, modern double-unit e-buses is a unique experience.
