Solaris at the Global Public Transport Summit

From June 15 to 18, 2025, Hamburg became a meeting point for public transportation leaders from around the world. During the UITP Global Public Transport Summit, key directions for the future of urban mobility were discussed, with a focus on sustainability, intelligence, and a genuine response to the needs of city residents.

Among the participants was Solaris, which presented its latest solutions at the exhibition and joined the conversation on the future of European public transport.

OVER 140 YEARS OF SHAPING MOBILITY TOGETHER

UITP (Union Internationale des Transports Publics) was founded in 1885 in Brussels. Initially bringing together tram and rail operators, the organization created a space for sharing knowledge in a rapidly developing industry.

As transport modes evolved – from buses to metro systems and MaaS – UITP grew into a global cooperation platform. Today, it brings together more than 1,900 members from 100 countries, including operators, manufacturers, cities, universities, and research institutions. What unites them is a shared goal: developing public transport that is accessible, efficient, and resilient to future challenges.

WHAT WAS DISCUSSED
IN HAMBURG?

The main themes of the UITP 2025 Congress addressed the most pressing issues facing modern urban mobility. Key topics included:

  • zero-emission solutions in practice – covering vehicles, infrastructure, and energy management,
  • digitalization and system integration – using data, AI, and smart fleet management,
  • inclusive mobility – designed for all user groups,
  • stable financing models – enabling sustainable change in cities.

WHERE YOU COULD FIND US?

During the event, Solaris was present at booth 120 in hall A4 (Hamburg Messe). We showcased our current solutions supporting the sustainable development of urban transport – including the Solaris Urbino 12 electric with modular drive architecture.

MODULAR DRIVE – MORE SPACE, FLEXIBILITY, AND RANGE

Solaris Urbino 12 electric with modular drive has been designed with maximum functionality in mind – both for passengers and operators. Thanks to the new drive architecture, which eliminates the traditional engine compartment, we increased the passenger area and rooftop space. This solution allows for more passenger capacity and improved visibility from inside the vehicle. Additionally, the modular design enables all batteries to be installed on the roof.

The vehicle is equipped with next-generation batteries with a total capacity of over 600 kWh, providing a range of 600 km (according to e-SORT 2 tests).

The unit presented at UITP is charged via a plug-in connector, but depending on operator needs, the Urbino 12 electric can also be charged using a pantograph (standard or inverted) or plug-in socket in various locations. The bus complies with GSR2 requirements and cybersecurity standards.

WHY IS UITP WORTH ATTENDING?

The transformation of public transport requires open collaboration and a genuine exchange of experiences. UITP is where technology meets practice, and innovative ideas are confronted with the everyday challenges of operators, cities, and manufacturers.
