117 battery-powered Solaris
the fleet of MPK in Cracow
An impressive number of 117 electric buses are already in the fleet of Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne SA in Cracow. The 99 battery-powered Urbino buses in use to date, with lengths of 8.9 meters and 12 and 18 meters, have now been joined by 18 new articulated Urbino 18 electric buses. The latest delivery was made under a contract signed in October 2022.
SEVERAL HUNDRED KILOMETERS OF
EMISSION-FREE DRIVING
The energy stores in the Cracow e-buses are Solaris High Energy batteries with a capacity of more than 400 kWh. For even greater efficiency and lower energy consumption, the propulsion system was made with innovative SiC technology, i.e. using silicon carbide-based systems. The supplied articulated Urbino can be recharged both by plug-in and by pantograph.
“I would like to thank MPK Cracow for entrusting us once again with the order for zero-emission buses, which will strengthen the carrier’s very modern fleet. On behalf of Solaris, I extend my sincere congratulations to the entire company. This is a great investment towards improving the quality of life in this beautiful city”
said Mateusz Figaszewski, E-mobility Development and Market Intelligence Director, representing Solaris at the official handover ceremony of the buses.

The battery buses destined for Cracow have been designed with a 2-2-2-2 door layout, with each vehicle accommodating 141 passengers, with 42 seated. The models are equipped with efficient air conditioning, an extensive passenger information system, as well as full monitoring and USB ports for charging smartphones. Importantly, all systems and equipment operating on the bus, including heating, are powered solely by electricity. The new vehicles run on lines 164, 174, 194 and 503.
10 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
IN EMISSION-FREE DRIVING
It is worth recalling that our company has been supplying state-of-the-art zero-emission solutions to Cracow for many years now, with an impressive total of 117 units. Just a few months ago we completed the delivery of 20 battery-powered buses, 7 Urbino 18 electric and 13 Urbino 12 electric. Together with the newly delivered 18 articulated buses, 38 new electric buses of our brand have thus been delivered to Cracow in 2023 alone.
“We have been operating electric buses for almost 10 years. We are constantly making sure that our fleet of vehicles is becoming more and more environmentally friendly, and this is happening thanks to the procurement of zero-emission vehicles. We currently have almost 120 of them. I would like to strongly emphasize that the purchase of such a large number of electric-powered buses would not have been possible without the successful acquisition of external funds. For their supply we have obtained a total of nearly PLN 243 million” said Rafał Świerczyński, CEO of MPK SA in Cracow.
