Today, sustainable public transport is much more than just zero-emission vehicles in urban spaces. At Solaris, we strive for even higher standards by designing and implementing solutions that minimize the environmental impact of our buses throughout their entire life cycle. A confirmation to our commitment in this direction is the obtaining of an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for another of our vehicles – the Solaris Urbino 18 hydrogen.
INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATION
The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an international environmental certification that transparently and objectively presents a product’s environmental impact throughout its entire life cycle. It encompasses the entire process – from raw material extraction and component production, through vehicle manufacturing and distribution, operation and maintenance, to final disposal at the end of its service life.
Each EPD is based on a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), which is verified by independent experts following ISO 4025, ISO 14040, ISO 14044 standards, as well as General Programme Instructions (GPI) and Product Category Rules (PCR). Thanks to a standardized methodology applied to products within the same category, an EPD provides reliable data, enabling objective comparisons of their environmental impact.

TOWARD SUSTAINABLE DECISIONS
Today, public transport operators increasingly require transparent information from vehicle manufacturers regarding the origins of raw materials used in production, supply chain structures, and sustainability initiatives during the manufacturing process.
The EPD environmental label serves as the most credible source of such information, offering a thorough analysis of a vehicle’s entire life cycle. It provides a solid foundation for informed purchasing decisions based on data – decisions that support sustainable public transport and a socially and environmentally responsible production process.

FOR THE THIRD TIME
Awarded the Bus of the Year 2025 title, the Solaris Urbino 18 hydrogen is gaining increasing popularity among clients across Europe. It can already be seen on the streets of Aschaffenburg, Cologne, Essen, Güstrow, Barcelona, and Wuppertal, with contracts underway for several additional cities.
This is the third model in our portfolio to receive this type of certification. Previously, the EPD label was awarded to the Solaris Urbino 18 electric and the Solaris Urbino 12 hybrid.
