TROLLINO 24
IN PRAGUE
BI-ARTICULATED GIANT
Solaris has delivered 20 modern, bi-articulated Trollino 24 trolleybuses to Prague. The longest model in the manufacturer’s portfolio and attracting attention not only for its impressive size, but also for its advanced technology. We paid a visit to the Prague-based operator Dopravní podnik hl. m. Prahy to see how our Trollino 24s are doing in the Czech capital.
PRAGUE – A LEADER IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE URBAN TRANSPORT
Prague is an example of a city that has been investing heavily in the development of sustainable urban transportation for years. The capital of the Czech Republic is widely known for its efficient public transport system. Every day, nearly 1.3 million passengers use public transportation in Prague, placing it among the leading European capitals. The city’s public transport system also includes a network of trolleybuses. Interestingly, trolleybuses returned to Prague in 2019 after more than 50 years of absence – in the 1970s, the city authorities decided to remove trolleybuses from the urban mobility options. Impressive 24-meter-long Trollino trolleybuses hit the streets of the Czech capital a few years after this historic revival, earning the title of the longest trolleybuses ever used in Czech public transport. Today, 20 of these mega-vehicles operate on the emission-free trolleybus line 59, connecting Veleslavín station with Prague Airport.
SOLARIS TROLLINO 24 – SUPER LONG, EFFICIENT, ECO-FRIENDLY
The Trollino 24 model is the longest trolleybus offered by Solaris. The exact length of this unique, bi-articulated vehicle is 24,700 mm. The Trollino 24 features a five-door configuration with a door arrangement of 2-2-2-2-2.
It can accommodate up to 179 passengers simultaneously, including 54 seated, making it an ideal solution for the most heavily trafficked routes in the city.
Each Solaris Trollino 24 is equipped with two traction motors and Solaris High Power batteries, allowing it to cover sections of the route without drawing power from the overhead network. The batteries are charged both during operation, through “in motion charging,” and overnight at the depot, which enhances the operational efficiency of this model.
COMFORT AND SAFETY FOR DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS
The Prague Trollino 24 models are equipped with systems designed to ensure passenger comfort, including efficient air conditioning and a comprehensive monitoring system. This system includes interior cameras, external cameras for observing the sides and rear of the vehicle with a 270-degree view, a rearview camera, and a pantograph monitoring view. Drivers can perform their daily tasks in a comfortable and secure closed cabin. This model also features a twilight and rain sensor that automatically activates the lights and windshield wipers. Inside the vehicle, there are two designated areas for wheelchair users. Both the passenger compartment lighting and the exterior lighting are designed using LED technology.
